We also work hard to provide a summer opportunity for learning each year. The summer workshop is typically held in mid August and can be a half-day or full-day course. The event is held outside giving participants hands-on training experience. A great lunch is provided as well as a chance to network with fellow arborists.
Our summer workshops have included full tree air excavations of root systems (2007), and full standing tree disections (2008) with tree decay assessment. These standing tree displays were a site to see and a fantastic teaching tool! In 2009 the focus was on utilization and marketing of bulevard trees (see the photos). We included the use and demo of a portable sawmil, did some additional trees disections and added some rigging demonstrations by city crews and local company arborists.
The 2010 Summer Workshop with Ken James and Brian Kane was a great success. Another great program will be planned for 2011.
